Make a Nomination!

Awards Process

  • Complete and submit the appropriate nomination form
  • The award consists of an appropriate certificate plus listing on the APF register of awards. It will be widely publicised to members.
  • The Awards Committee will assess the nomination and will make a recommendation to the Board. Nominators will be notified of the result of nomination after the Board meeting in which these nominations are considered.
  • The Tim Bates Award is reviewed by the Awards Committee and the Claude Gillard Australian Skydiving Legend Award is reviewed by the local area council.

Nominators should allow at least four months for this process to reach its conclusion.

Who can nominate someone?

  • Any APF full term, life, or honorary life APF member (Exception: For the Claude Gillard Skydiving Legend Award, the nominator does not need to be an APF member and cannot be self-nominated.)
  • An APF Club or organisation that supports parachuting activities
  • If you are not an APF member, please contact the awards committee and we will assist you where possible
  • Self-nomination is also acceptable.

Notes to nominators:

  • The awards committee may offer assistance to a nominator via feedback and or other help, where a nomination may need more work.
  • The nominee should not be informed of their nomination.
  • Unsuccessful nominations may be revised and re-submitted for the same award after a period of at least twelve months has elapsed from the initial submission.
  • Re-submission for the same person, but for a different award, can be made as soon as the Board meeting following the meeting in which the initial submission was unsuccessful
  • Nominees must be a living person (Exception: Does not apply to the Claude Gillard Skydiving Legend Award). If a nominee dies after being nominated but before being confirmed, the process continues and, if successful, the award is made to the person’s estate.
  • Awards cannot be made to sitting APF Directors, current APF staff or to the CEO.  Former Directors, APF staff and CEOs are eligible if they meet the criteria.
  • The nominee should be someone who has conducted themselves over many years in a manner that could serve as a positive role model for up-and-coming jumpers. They must be in good standing with the APF.
  • Recipients must not have had any disciplinary findings made against them in the ten years prior to being nominated.
