Notices of Motion (NoM)

Almost every year, around this time, APF receives motions from members, hoping to have them aired at the AGM.  As a Non-Profit Company Limited by Guarantee, AGM laws are quite precise and in recent years every attempt has been made to run our AGM by the rules.

That means that APF AGMs in recent years have been quite short, and they usually take little more than a half hour.  There is no “General Business” section and there are no elections at the AGM.  The agenda is quite short, and the Chair and the CEO generally keep their verbal reports brief as all the detail comes in the Yearbook and Annual Report.  CLG AGMs are not an open member forum and of course we have no shareholders.   The decision to become a Company Limited by Guarantee was voted upon by the members some years ago, and of course no changes to the Constitution can take place without a member vote.  No changes are proposed this year.

Below are four examples of motions submitted this year that do not qualify for AGM inclusion under the Corporations Act but are worth publicising anyway.  These were circulated to all members in the interests of openness and transparency.  They will not be voted upon by members. However, they will be studied with interest by those who make operational policy decisions and recommendations.  They represent the views of some, but not all, members. Remember, APF is open for complaints and suggestions 24/7.  Don’t wait for a meeting!  If you are ever considering making an AGM motion, get expert advice as part of your preparation.
